CREATEvents

It's about time for me to start taking my work and 'artsy' hobbies to the next level... Just to share what I do everyday, I work as a Graphic Artist from Monday to Friday, and when I have spare time I also blog. So basically, I need to refuel my creative juices! And the good news is there are so many events in and around the Metro, dedicated for both the artists and the art-lovers, this July and August...
Art at the Shang 2011 is an ongoing exhibit participated by different artists that comprise the Saturday Group. It runs from July 16 to 24, held at the Grand Atrium at Shangri-La Plaza Mall in Mandaluyong City. I remember during one of my painting classes when we were required to visit the Saturday Group exhibit so we can get inspiration from the works of the artists, but I had thesis back then, now there's no stopping me! I can finally take my time to enjoy the exhibit. :)
Graphika Manila is now on its 6th year in bringing together the 'creative people,' the Multimedia and Graphic Designers both here and abroad, to be able to inspire newbies like me on their Advertising Design expertise and their success stories. It will take place at the SMX Convention Center on July 30, 2011. It will be my first time to attend, I was able to take advantage of their early bird rate, I really hope to learn so much from this conference. I bought my pass at the Digital Walker at the Ground Floor of Park Square, Makati. You can check out the Graphika Manila website for more information as to where you can purchase your tickets. ;)
Gadgets Magazine’s annual social media event, Pinoy_Blogfest 2.0, is scheduled to happen on 5 August 2011 at the TriNoma Activity Center in Quezon City. The theme for year 2 is: "Social Media as an Agent of Change." I am still hoping to get an invite, because it can help me become a more socially-responsible blogger. Interested bloggers are requested to send their name, blog URL, and contact details to blogfest@gadgetsmagazine.com.ph for invites to the by-invitation-only evening program by July 31, Sunday.

The Gap

Ira Glass on Storytelling from David Shiyang Liu on Vimeo . "All of us who do creative work, we get into it because we have good taste. But there is this gap.  It is only by going through a volume of work that you will close that gap, and your work will be as good as your ambitions." -Ira Glass What drove me to post this inspiring video is the fact that one work of mine has been finally put up in EDSA. It's like a milestone to be celebrated, but it falls under the kind of work that you're not really very proud to show... not because it's that bad, it's just trying to be good. I am not going to name-drop that certain brand, and I have to say that the artist does not always have the call on how can it be done solely, there are a lot more people involved in the creative process.  This is just the beginning and so I hope and pray that in the near future, I'll get past the stage where I just work for the sake of getting the job done but because it was...

Save Baguio Pine Trees

I have been to Baguio City, twice in my life. The first trip was ten years ago when I was 12. And just recently, last February for the Panagbenga Festival. And because of its cold weather and abundance of strawberries, peanut brittle and choco flakes, not to mention wearing 'Winter Wardrobe' (knitted sweaters, berets, etc.) and most importantly, the picturesque mountain views with towering pine trees, I have come to love the place. So it is only right that I dedicate an artwork for the City of Pines, the summer capital of the Philippines. I may not be an environmentalist holding a picket along with the locals, but this I guess is the best I can do as an artist - to inspire people that the beautiful riches of our country is in our natural resources, we must take good care of it, as stewards of God's creation. I thank you. :)
